What do you do?
I support and empower people from BAME communities to engage with local organisations and community leaders. I help them develop confidence in accessing services they need across the health and wellbeing sector so they can sustain a tenancy. This helps to reduce homelessness, isolation, issues with mental health and benefits and any barriers they may have to access services they need.

“It’s been a long year but in reality it’s not even been a year – nine months to the end of December. It has been difficult to get into the flow because it seemed that at every juncture there was a new unforeseen change to deal with, which brought struggle or disappointment. The fragmentation of our systems, big and small, have shown us just how interdependent we are, whether that be the people delivering local services or national Government. We can’t do it alone. We need and depend on our neighbour.

Emmanuel House is often the first step of recovery out of homelessness for many people in Nottingham, who can do so by accessing one of three different types of service; our drop-in service, the Nottingham Night Shelter and our outreach team.

We are currently offering support, clothing, showers, IT access and haircuts to people who are homeless, rough sleeping, or in crisis and at risk of homelessness. People can come to the hatch at the front of Emmanuel House and book an appointment with our support staff.

Steve had come to Nottingham from Cambridge to go to university. After lockdown his mental health had deteriorated and he had not attended online studies. As a result, he had lost his place on his course at university.
