How is Emmanuel House’s Night Shelter currently operating?

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Nottingham Night Shelter moved into a hotel on 27th March 2020 under the Government’s ‘Everybody In’ scheme. Since then, we’ve been providing much-needed support during a period of crisis and have enabled rough sleepers to self-isolate in individual rooms throughout the pandemic. We are now supporting up to 50 guests.

How we make a difference: Single Support Service and the night shelter

In late 2019, Adam* and Jo*’s studio flat started to develop severe mould. Numerous attempts to resolve the matter with their landlord weren’t listened to. As a result of the mould, Adam, who is under 30 and fit and healthy, was hospitalised five times and developed COPD.

It has been difficult to get into the flow because it seemed that at every juncture there was a new unforeseen change to deal with, which brought struggle or disappointment. The fragmentation of our systems, big and small, have shown us just how interdependent we are, whether that be the people delivering local services or national Government. We can’t do it alone. We need and depend on our neighbour.

Emmanuel House is often the first step of recovery out of homelessness for many people in Nottingham, who can do so by accessing one of three different types of service; our drop-in service, the Nottingham Night Shelter and our outreach team.

Nottingham’s creative community joins forces for Emmanuel House’s Winter Appeal

November 5, 2020

We have launched our winter appeal by telling the people of Nottingham ‘You Can Make the Difference’ in supporting homeless, vulnerable and isolated adults across the city.

We’re launching our campaign with the release of Lone, a short film based on the lived experiences of homeless people in Nottingham. A public art campaign also includes a mural, a poster appeal and artwork across a city centre bus and tram.
