How many people has Emmanuel House recently supported?

Emmanuel House supports people who are homeless, rough sleeping, have No Recourse to Public Funds, or are at risk of homelessness in Nottingham. Any individual, regardless of their economic status, disability, resident status, sexual orientation, gender identity, race or country of origin is able to access our services, which are all free.

All our support is based on a person-centred approach, ensuring a holistic and dynamic service, which has evolved to meet the needs and demands of our community. Our support centre’s Access Team meets people’s basic human needs, providing showers, food and clothing. Alongside this, our outreach services include the Wellbeing Support Team, which provides mental health services for people who are homeless, and our Culturally Specific Support Worker, who helps people from minoritised ethnic communities.

Preparing hot food for people who are homless in Nottingham

Between 1st January 2023 and 31st March 2023, 321 individual beneficiaries visited the Support Centre 1656 times. This is an increase of 48% compared to the previous quarter.

  • We served 754 meals.
  • We provided 57 hot showers.
  • Our volunteer barber provided 48 haircuts.
  • Beneficiaries participated in activity sessions such as the Grassroots Vocal Choir and the allotment 171 times.
  • The Access Team conducted 96 different appointments, supporting people with benefits, health, homelessness, housing and benefits related issues.

Positive outcomes for people who are homeless

Across the organisation, we achieved a total of 96 positive outcomes for our beneficiaries:

  • We supported 27 people into supported accommodation, such as hostels.
  • We supported 7 people into private-rented or registered social landlord tenancies.
  • We supported 4 people into emergency accommodation, such as a hotel.
  • 1 person was supported to a place of safety.
  • We supported 46 people in our Winter Shelter.
  • 5 people returned to an area of the country where they could be accommodated.
  • 1 person returned to another country where they could be accommodated.
  • 2 people have their full benefits in place.
  • 1 person was helped to obtain identity documents.
  • 1 person registered with a GP.
  • 1 person started employment.

How we help people to grow and develop

We have supported our beneficiaries to grow and develop a total of 135 times in the following ways:

  • 23 people improved in their physical health.
  • 26 people improved in their mental health.
  • 22 people improved their ability to manage a tenancy.
  • 21 people improved their day-to-day living skills.
  • 16 people reduced the feeling of social isolation.
  • 9 people either reduced, or gained better control of their alcohol use.
  • 5 people either reduced, or gained better control of their substance misuse.
  • 4 people reduced their offending behaviour.

It costs Emmanuel House £1500 a day to run the support centre and its core services, which include the provision of basic services for people who find themselves homeless in Nottingham.
