NTU fashion students create innovative upcycled garment designs for Emmanuel House beneficiaries

The ‘EmmanuelHouseNTU 2021’ project is nearing completion for the third year and we are thrilled to see the final outerwear garments produced by the Level 1 Fashion Design students at Nottingham Trent University. Over 100 garments have been created from secondhand textiles with specific considerations for the needs of people who are homeless, rough sleeping, in crisis or at risk of homelessness.

Sam’s ‘Portable Homeless Pod’ project

This month we were lucky enough to catch up with 10-year-old Sam, a young innovative designer, enjoying being back at his school Tuxford Primary Academy in Newark. Over Zoom, Sam told us about an art project he did whilst he was home learning during lockdown. His class were given a choice of issues to consider and problem solve. Sam chose homelessness because of a personal experience of seeing a homeless person at a park in a nearby town. He recalls seeing someone who had only a piece of cardboard, some bubble wrap, a backpack, some crisps and a bottle of water.

Horsendale Primary School smashes fundraising target for homelessness project

We have thanked Year 2 pupils at Horsendale Primary School in Nuthall for their project about homelessness and outstanding fundraising achievements. The initiative, which launched with an interactive online assembly to six and seven-year-olds, culminated in the class of 30 raising £730.
