One Cold Winter’s Morning

One Cold Winter’s morning
(To the tune of away in a manger)

Think Christmas – Give Hope. Emmanuel House’s Winter Appeal song.

One cold winter’s morning as the stars all looked down

A mother, near labour, was searching the town

The shop windows glittered with tinsel and gold

The pain of her loneliness sharper than cold

Now she was a stranger, there was no-one to say

Here’s a place you can go – here’s a place you can stay

For our brothers and sister on these city streets

There’s concrete for pillows and cardboard for sheets.

One cold winter’s morning our Saviour was born

And the veil between heaven and earth was torn

We sing ‘Come Lord Jesus’ and yet he is near

In the form of the homeless he lives with us here.
