How can I support Emmanuel House with ‘eBay for Charity’?

How can I support Emmanuel House Support Centre with ‘eBay for Charity’?

eBay is currently one of the largest ecommerce selling sites on the internet. Buying on eBay is an excellent way to reduce waste, reuse and recycle good quality items, particularly if you make use of the ‘local pick up’ function. With ‘eBay for Charity’, you can now support Emmanuel House Support Centre when you buy and sell items on eBay, helping us to support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Nottingham.

If you are new to eBay, it’s super easy to set up an account and start selling online. In a few simple steps you can start making money from items lying around your home, that you no longer use or need. Selling on eBay is an excellent way to declutter and recycle good quality items like clothing, furniture, tools, equipment or toys. You can also start a business selling upcycled or handmade items.

We’ve pulled together some key information on how to get started, how to donate to Emmanuel House when buying or selling and how to find our Emmanuel House eBay shop online.

How do I set up an eBay account?

Creating an eBay account is straightforward. Once you’ve registered and completed verification, you can get started straight away and create a listing for the item you want to sell. Download the eBay app for quick and efficient listings, including uploading photos straight from your device. Here’s some more information.

How can I support Emmanuel House as an eBay seller?

When listing an item simply follow the prompts and enter the information required. You will be asked to provide photos, a title, item specifics, selling category, description, pricing (including auction and duration options or ‘Buy it Now’), delivery or ‘local pick up’ and preferences. As you progress through the listing, eBay will recommend options, based on the success of previous sellers.

Anyone selling on eBay can list an ‘eBay for Charity’ item and donate a percentage to Emmanuel House. Near the bottom of the listing is the option to ‘donate a portion to charity’. Simply enter Emmanuel House Support Centre and select a percentage of the sale to donate to us.

How does eBay for Charity work?

  1. The item sells. The seller receives payment from the buyer (and a matching % fee credit from eBay.)
  2. PayPal Giving Fund collects the donation from the seller. The payment method on file with eBay is used unless the seller has chosen otherwise.
  3. If the seller ticked the Gift Aid box, PayPal Giving Fund claims Gift Aid for the charity.
  4. After a short period, to ensure all has gone through successfully, 100% of the donation and Gift Aid is transferred to the chosen charity.

What are final value fees?

eBay charges a listing fee when you create a listing and a final value fee when your item sells. Other fees may apply if you add upgrades to your listing, or if your item sells or ships to a buyer in a different country. Private sellers can list for free on eBay with a monthly allocation of 1,000 free listings (or more if you have an eBay Shop). After this allocation you’ll be charged 35p for each new listing created.

You pay one final value fee for items you sell on eBay and you don’t have to worry about third party payment processing fees. The final value fee is calculated as 12.8% of the total amount of the sale (which includes the item price, postage, taxes and any other applicable fees), plus a fixed charge of 30p per order.

If you use eBay for Charity and your item sells, your final value fees will be discounted by the same percentage that you donated, up to 100%. For example, if you donate 25% to charity then you will get a 25% discount on your final value fees, and 100% discount if you donate 100%.
