In recent months our charity shop has seen an upward trend in donations, customers and sales. We are delighted to report that in June the sales recorded reached £2439.29! All money that is made in the shop is spent in the same building providing life changing support for homeless, isolated and vulnerable adults in Nottingham, so thank you to everyone who has donated good quality items of women’s and menswear, shoes, accessories and good quality bric-a-brac. Also, thank you to all of our volunteers who keep the shop running from Mon-Sat every week and thank you to our customers who, by shopping with us, are fundraising for our service!
From February this year, we undertook an exciting project with Nottingham Trent University Fashion Design Level 1 students. The brief they were given was to rework un-saleable items from our donations store and create an outerwear garment for one of our service users. The project brought forward learning for the students on the devastating impact of homelessness and the associated issues whilst also addressing our global need to reduce our consumption of fashion. They more than succeeded at reusing existing resources, the end garments were ingenious in functionality for rough sleepers whilst also extremely fashionable and attractive to wear. The garments are currently being assessed at the University and will be made available at a later date.
Also, as part of the project, our charity shop window had a makeover thanks to the creative talent of Evie Shepherd final year Graphic Design student.
Our stock inside the shop got a new layout to streamline our men’s and ladies wear sections and we profiled some of our stock online with some fantastic fashion photography and styling by Emily Haig a Fashion, Communications and Photography student.
We were also fortunate to have the skilled creative input of Tim Bassford, Creative Director and Photographers Natasha and Trevor for a fun photo shoot in addition to some high quality video promotional material.
We’ve had a wonderful Spring / Summer at The Emmanuel House Charity Shop and are really excited to see what surprises Autumn / Winter 2019 has in store for us! Watch this space!
