New research from Shelter shows at least 7900 people in the East Midlands spent Christmas without a home, including 3600 children. Nottingham had the highest figure in the region.

As of now, Nottingham City Council manages over 2540 open homelessness cases, with approximately 470 families in temporary accommodation and numerous individuals in supported living arrangements. New data from the Office for National Statistics shows that rent prices are continuing to rise at a record rate.

Nottingham has seen a 20% increase in rental values, with the average monthly rent for a city property increasing to £970.

Charities like Emmanuel House are continuing to support people who find themselves without a home. Regardless of how bad the circumstances are, we need to keep fighting homelessness so that it does not escalate and draw even more people into trauma and misery. We are only ever going to be able to do that in partnership with the community.
