Weekend and evening volunteer shifts available at this season’s Winter Shelter

Can you help Emmanuel House provide emergency short-term accommodation for people who are homeless over winter?

Emmanuel House’s Winter Shelter has been a cornerstone of support for homeless people in Nottingham for over 18 years. It was established to provide warmth, safety and essential services during the coldest months and is an integral part of Emmanuel House’s mission.

The Winter Shelter exists to reduce the number of people sleeping rough on the streets of Nottingham during the worst of the winter months.

How this year’s Winter Shelter is operating

Between October 2024 and April 2025, Emmanuel House will provide short-term emergency accommodation for people who find themselves without anywhere to stay. The Winter Shelter has now moved from the University of Nottingham campus and is based in the city centre.

From the Winter Shelter, guests will be provided with somewhere safe and secure to sleep, breakfast and an evening meal, and access to continuous and consistent support from a dedicated team of Case Workers. Guests will be able to access Emmanuel House’s morning drop-in service, visits from specialist external services, as well as afternoon activities, such as gardening, singing, games and cooking classes. They will also have access to Emmanuel House’s mental health and wellbeing teams.
