NCT and NET ‘make the difference’ to Emmanuel House

Our colourful campaign message of hope and positivity can now be spotted all around Nottingham thanks to a generous donation worth over £25,000 in advertising from Nottingham City Transport, the city’s tram network and its print supplier Adverta.

Our ‘You Can Make The Difference’ artwork, which has been designed to launch our winter fundraising appeal to support homeless people across the city, has been applied to a 14-foot fully-wrapped double decker bus, 30 bus super rears, a full tram superside and 15 tram stops.

Our CEO Denis Tully said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity from NCT and NET and would like to say a huge thank you for their incredibly kind donation. The advertising will help us to raise awareness about the work we do to support those who are homeless, rough sleeping, in crisis or at risk of homelessness. We can’t wait to see the artwork all around the city and hope that the positive message will resonate with the people of Nottingham.

“Our winter appeal is our most important fundraising event – we need it to sustain the running of the charity all year round. As a result of the pandemic, Emmanuel House could be at risk of a £70,000 shortfall in our core income this year. Our sources of income and community fundraising have drastically been reduced. So donations like these are so gratefully received as it will help us to reach even more supporters.”

Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Marketing Manager, said: “2020 has been a very challenging year, particularly for charities who support some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Homelessness is a concern for many of our employees and we’re keen to continue our support for homeless people this year by donating advertising space on our buses, to raise awareness of the great work that Emmanuel House do.”

Chris Williams, who oversees social responsibility for the tram operator, said: “During these difficult times due to Covid-19 it’s more important than ever to support the most vulnerable in the community and we’re committed to doing all we can to help.

“The tram network serves many key locations around the city and we’re sure the colourful posters and eye-catching tram will provide a real boost for the charity’s winter appeal.”

We commissioned local designer Elroy the Artist to design the poster, 18-metre mural and outdoor advertising to communicate the difference supporters can make to the charity’s work, as well as the difference they can make to their community. Elroy painted the mural onto the front of the Goose Gate centre, which has brought art, positivity and colour to the streets of Hockley.

Denis added: “There is a QR code on the tram stop posters, which leads you straight to our website. Here you can watch Lone, a short film we had commissioned that is based on the lived experiences of homelessness. It provides insight into how homelessness happens and how Emmanuel House provides support. It’s 10 minutes long so ideal for watching on the tram! Supporters can easily donate using their phones while they’re on the go.”

We’re asking members of the public to take photos of the Emmanuel House buses and tram and post them on social media by tagging Emmanuel House on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and using #youcanmakethedifference.
