Can you help us provide food for people who are homeless over winter?
As the seasons change, the air becomes crisper and the colours around us deepen, we are reminded of the season’s connection to abundance and gratitude. It’s during this time of transition that we are excited to launch this year’s Harvest Campaign and ask our community to help us with the food provision at Emmanuel House.
It’s important for us to ensure that the joys of the harvest season are extended to everyone in our community, including those who find themselves without a place to call home. Our Harvest Campaign is more than just a collection of efforts; it enables us to harness the bounty of the season and transform it into sustenance, hope and dignity for those who need it most.
The donations we receive during our Harvest Campaign will sustain the service for the rest of the year and we’d love to be able to fill the shelves of our store room with food for our beneficiaries.

Food provision at the support centre
As part of our support centre’s basic services provision, we serve a lunchtime meal during our drop-in sessions. Our volunteers cook the lunchtime meal using ingredients donated by the community.

Food provision at the Winter Shelter
Emmanuel House’s Winter Shelter will be reopening on the University Park campus in October. It will provide short-term emergency and 24-hour support for up to 27 people a night until April 2024.
For people that arrive at our Winter Shelter, hot food and a warm welcome is the beginning of their journey towards resettlement. It’s important for our guests to have healthy, well-balanced nutritious meals.
Our team of specialist staff and hardworking volunteers will be providing three meals a day for up to 27 people for six months. That’s potentially 81 meals a day and 567 meals a week. We could be serving around 13,000 meals this season.

How can you help provide food donations for people who would otherwise be rough sleeping over winter?
We will be batch cooking food at Emmanuel House’s kitchen and making daily deliveries to the Winter Shelter for lunch and dinner. We also provide breakfast and snacks, as well as packed lunches for those working during the day. We need ingredients so that we can cook these fresh, tasty meals.

FAQs
Can you collect food donations from me?
Unfortunately, we’re not able to collect food donations from individuals, this is due to our staff capacity and limited transport. If you are struggling, why not club together with friends, family or colleagues and make a group donation.
Alternatively, we have an Amazon Wishlist that enables you to order items online that will be delivered to Emmanuel House by courier. You can also order food online from other retailers and ask for it to be delivered to us.
Can you accept online supermarket deliveries?
Yes, please get in touch and we’ll provide you with a list of items we specifically need for that week.
Can I make something at home and drop it off?
Due to food hygiene regulations, we can only accept food that has been cooked in a kitchen that is registered with the Food Standard Agency and can provide a food hygiene rating certificate. Therefore, we are unable to accept food cooked in a regular home.
Can I drop off food donations over the weekend?
Unfortunately, we’re only open during the week. Please get in touch and we’ll see if we can make alternative arrangements through our charity shop.
Can I donate fresh food such as meat, dairy and vegetables?
Yes, but please get in touch and we’ll provide you with a list of items we specifically need for that week: donations@emmanuelhouse.org.uk.

Yes, please email volunteering@emmanuelhouse.org.uk and we will be in touch.
