We are happy to be re-opening Emmanuel House as we start to provide hot meals for our beneficiaries again, after more than a year of not being able to have communal eating in our support centre.
In March 2020, we had to close our kitchen doors and stop cooking for the beneficiaries who access our drop-in centre. Since then, we’ve been providing take-away packed lunches and breakfasts, as well as cooking meals for the shelter, which has been operating at a local hotel.
Hot meals will now be served to people who are homeless, rough sleeping, in crisis or have ‘no recourse to public funds’ (those with restricted access to mainstream housing, welfare benefits or employment opportunities).
The meals are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
The meals will be cooked by a dedicated group of volunteers and supervised by a member of staff.
Our priority, amidst delivering our services, is still to reduce the risk of staff, service users and volunteers from becoming ill, as well as ensuring their welfare.
The lockdown has certainly presented us with some significant challenges, but despite this, we continue to do everything we can to prevent people becoming homeless and to support those who are homeless into accommodation.
We are offering lateral flow tests to staff, volunteers and service users, ensuring everyone wears a mask inside, maintaining social distancing and regularly sanitising hands.
