Emmanuel House is open every weekday morning to provide basic services to people who are homeless
Katie* walked into our morning drop-in session in the summer. She was a survivor of domestic abuse and was experiencing mental health issues. Katie was particularly vulnerable and due to an unhealthy influence, she stopped taking her medication for her mental health. This also related to her being evicted from her supported accommodation and she was sofa surfing with an ex-partner.

Our support worker sat down and listened to her situation and put together a plan of support. We encouraged her to re-engage with her GP so she could continue with her mental health medication.

Our Wellbeing Support Team encouraged her to attend our morning drop-in sessions while she was sofa surfing.
We supported her to go to the local authority’s housing provision and provided a supporting statement outlining her situation. As a result of this, the local authority found her a room in a hotel.
Katie resumed her medication and is managing her mental health. She is feeling a lot happier and more able to cope.
We are now supporting Katie to find her own accommodation and are making applications to housing providers. Katie continues to engage with her GP, is managing her mental health and hopes to start volunteering.
