Wonderful feedback from an Emmanuel House beneficiary
“Within a year I’ve come from a really dark place to feeling positive, having my own house, furniture, the confidence to apply for jobs and smash the interviews.”
We recently spoke to one of our beneficiaries about the support they’ve been receiving over the past year.
Why did you need support?
I had recently moved into supported accommodation after sleeping rough in Nottingham. I was really low, drinking heavily and had no idea what to do.
How has Emmanuel House supported you?
While I was sleeping on the streets, Emmanuel House was literally a life saver. It was somewhere I could go for a hot meal, a shower, warm clothes and even a sleeping bag.
After I moved into supported accommodation, I met my support worker. In the 12 months I’d been seeing them, my mental health and attitude towards life had improved beyond belief.
As well as the mental health side of things, they had been essential in the practical side of the journey. Everything from great advice, helping me get white goods, furniture – even a TV!
What difference has the support made to you?
They have really helped me turn my life around. Within a year I’ve come from a really dark place to feeling positive, having my own house, furniture, the confidence to apply for jobs and smash the interviews.
The most important difference they have made is in building bridges with my ex-partner, which led to me being a part of my son’s life again.
Are there any ways you think we could improve our services?
Clone my support worker.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
I just want to build on what I have right now, allowing me to be a reliable positive part of my son’s life.
Any other feedback?
Keep doing what you’re doing.
