Womanuel Project: Week 8

Week eight of Womanuel gave group members and support staff the opportunity to visit the Nottingham Store of Bird & Blend Tea Co. for an afternoon of tea testing, making and tasting. The workshop had been tailored to the group and included an array of tea activities along with a talk about women in business.

As part of the afternoon, the group tried many teas, which were all refreshing and perfectly brewed. Shona the store manager and Jazz who also works there, both did a fantastic job in educating the group and they found out that there is a tea for just about every ailment! They discussed tea for headaches, for flu, to aid sleep, to alleviate worrying and there’s even a tea to help with anger management and anxiety. The group then had the opportunity to make their own tea blend which they were able to bring away with them. As part of the relaxed workshop and over a cup of tea or two, the group then heard about women in business and how Shona and Jazz came to work for Bird & Blend Tea Co.

Emmanuel House is Bird and Blend Tea Co.’s charity of the quarter, with all proceeds from Vicky’s Sponge Cake (their ChariTEA) being donated to us. Having heard about Womanuel, our Woman’s Group, the company, as part of the partnership, jumped at the chance to host the tea mixology session for our service users.  The ladies commented that they were happy to be in the company of women, in a relaxed and welcoming environment and that this was a really fun day out. A big thank you to Bird & Blend Tea Co. for supporting Emmanuel House and our Womanuel Project, the afternoon was enjoyed by all who attended.

The Womanuel project ran initially for six weeks and was facilitated by Nottingham-based external creative agency, Nonsuch. Following a recent successful application to the National Lottery Awards for All, the sessions will again be facilitated by Nonsuch for 15 weeks in the Autumn. During the summer, the group will continue to meet for a programme of sessions, as decided and lead by the group members assistant by Emmanuel House Support Workers. The sessions are designed to encourage social interaction and offer a relaxed environment in which to express and explore different areas of interest.
