Last week was the first of the Womanuel Group sessions following the six week block of activities with Non Such. Over the Summer, the Wellbeing and Support Team will be delivering the weekly sessions, with an activity programme discussed and devised by service users and staff.
To start the summer sessions, as a group, the Womanuel participants and staff discussed their key values: Respect, no judging, friendship, keeping things confidential in the group, creating a safe space, making an encouraging environment, taking turns to talk, listening to each other, learning from each other, sharing experience, being positive and encouraging a relaxing environment.
Continuing with the positive theme that is so important in the weekly sessions, the participants then reflected on and shared one positive thing that had happened this week. Following on from this, the group then began their first big project called the “Positivitree”. This is a hand-painted tree which will be decorated with positive quotes and thoughts, with more added over the weeks and helping it to grow! This is going to be standing tall in the main staircase and will illustrate to all who enter Emmanuel House just what Womanuel is about.
The Womanuel project ran initially for six weeks and was facilitated by Nottingham-based external creative agency, Nonsuch. Following a recent successful application to the National Lottery Awards for All, the sessions will again be facilitated by Nonsuch for 15 weeks in the Autumn. During the summer, the group will continue to meet for a programme of sessions, as decided and lead by the group members assistant by Emmanuel House Support Workers. The sessions are designed to encourage social interaction and offer a relaxed environment in which to express and explore different areas of interest.
